I-55 around area from East St. Louis to Troy

Roads are Clear on I-55 in the immediate Collinsville, Illinois area.
There is ongoing traffic on I-255 bridges south of Old Collinsville Rd. approx 2 miles south of the intersection with I55/70. The speed limit ranges from 55 MPH but drops to 45MPH where the lanes are restricted. Please mind your speed in this narrow, dangerous construction area. Do not let a speeding bully push you to get the $375 minimum fine that is imposed in Illinois Construction Areas.

Drive safe everywhere. Collinsville, IL has stepped up DUI enforcement and the community is home to an Illinois State Highway Patrol Command Center so there is always a marked and unmarked presence on all area roads.
There is ongoing construction between the Gateway International Speedway and East St. Louis. Be advised that the normal speed limit in this area is 50 MPH, but the existing limit is 45 and there is a lane reduction as well! There is a dangerous curve as you cut across East St. Louis on I-55 heading south and just as dangerous heading north!. This will be a long term project since it is part of the new bridge crossing the Mississippi River.
Also be advised that local drivers have lost their minds in the area where the lanes are reduced! The extreme right and left lanes in this area eventually EXIT into very crappy neighborhoods! Beware of heavy truck traffic in this area as it leads to the only real bridge that crosses the Mississippi River near downtown St. Louis.
Finally, when going west, be aware that there are FOUR lanes that cross on the Popular St./I-70 bridge! You really only have to be in the RIGHT two lanes if you are going to take I-55 SOUTH or I-70 WEST! Otherwise BEAR to the LEFT two lanes and WATCH OUT for nitwits who make last minute decisions at the split enter the bridge at Rte 3!
